After mooring "Lassen" delegation of American sailors, led by commander Captain 2nd Rank Scott McClelland, paid a courtesy visit to the Administration of Vladivostok, where it met with the deputy head of the Roman town of pocket.
The meeting was attended by Head of International Relations and Tourism of the city administration Vladimir Saprykin, adviser to the head of Vladivostok and Vladimir Zakharov, head of the international protocol Vitaly Eremenko. The American side was represented by the U.S. Consul General in Vladivostok Sylvia Reed Curran, as well as deputy naval attache Captain 2nd Rank Jeff Krupka and a number of officers of the crew of the destroyer "Lassen".
Roman Pockets welcomed the guests on behalf of the head of Vladivostok Igor Pushkarev and wished them a useful, informative and comfortable stay in our city. He noted that the U.S. Navy is not the first time will participate in the Victory Day celebrations in Vladivostok. This is a clear symbol of the military community, the sources of which originated as early as during the Second World War, and serves to further development of Russian-American relations.
And one characteristic detail. It was the U.S. Navy and Russia have been among the first emissaries of friendship. So, soon after the visits in 1990 the Pacific Fleet in San Diego, and the U.S. Navy - Vladivostok agreement was signed sister city relations between these cities. And these contacts continue to develop dynamically.
Roman Pockets also stressed that the huge changes that have taken place over the last three or four years in appearance, infrastructure, and the new status of Vladivostok, is proud of our residents, and unique bridges have become symbols of the city. He wanted to make sure that the crew "Lassen".
Scott McClelland, for its part, has confirmed that the sailors of his ship already at calling in the Eastern Bosphorus Strait and the Golden Horn were very impressed with the unique view of Vladivostok and feel the dynamism and openness of the city. And in the course of his first acquaintance with Vladivostok commander "Lassen" said the beauty of his new promenade, the presence of the cozy green spaces and gardens, harmonious blend of historic buildings and modern facilities. He said that the crew of his ship responsibly preparing for the Victory Day parade and look forward to the opportunity to go ashore to explore the Vladivostok and its residents.
In addition to participating in the Victory Parade, the crew of the USS waiting in Vladivostok extensive cultural, charitable and sports program.
