The accident at the «Nerpa» occurred in the Sea of Japan in November 2008 during sea trials. Third party worked on the submarine fire suppression system, and the result was a gas release. Of the 208 people on board, 20 sailors and industry professionals were killed and another 21 were hospitalized. Investigators charged the commander of the submarine Guard Captain 1st Rank Dimitri Lavrentiev and bilge machinist foreman Dmitry deathly. The court found them guilty, but the Armed Forces returned the case for retrial. The prosecutor\’s office sent a protest to justify, since it was found that the system has operated as a result of human error. Prosecutors believe the Lavrentiev and coffins — the only ones responsible for the accident and have to bear the whole responsibility. If prosecutors appeal is approved, it is possible that the next trial would have without a jury. This is due to changes in federal laws that prohibit consider cases with classified information in the presence of the jury.
