Today, Vladivostok started meeting of the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for UNESCO tsunami warning system in the Pacific Ocean and mitigation.
Since 2004 there have been 13 tsunami that claimed the lives of many people, 8 of them — in the Pacific Ocean.
Such an event is held for the first time in the Maritime region. This issue is very relevant for our region — the coast of Primorye exposed to tsunamis originating from earthquakes in the Japan Sea off the western coast of the Japanese islands.
In the course of the commission of scientists, meteorologists reports will be presented, as well as gathered together choose the strategy of prevention of natural hazards in the coming years and make recommendations. Session will end on September 11.
