At the XXII Summer Deaflympics in Sofia came to more than 3000 athletes from 85 countries. In the national team of Russia took part in the competition 21-year-old swimmer seaside Vitaly Obotin, whose program was nine heats at various distances. All they brought athlete from Primorye awards. On the basis of performances Vitaly Obotin became a seven-time champion and twice runner XXII Deaflympics. He made the biggest contribution to the treasury of the Russian national team, and in addition, also set a record multimedalny Surdlimpiady — 9 gold medals and a silver-esteem. Vitaly Obotin took first place at distances of 100 and 200 m freestyle in the medley at 200 and 400 m in the Russian fours in relays: 4×100 combined and freestyle — 4×100 and 4×200 second places at distances of 400 and 1500 m freestyle. The fact that the national team of the country is in the medal standings in the first place — and it is a significant contribution. August 4 XXII Deaflympics ended. Team Russia won 177 medals — 67 gold, 52 silver and 58 bronze, leaving far behind the national team of Ukraine, located on the second place — 21 gold, 30 silver and 37 bronze medals. The delegation of the Russian Federation for the XXII Summer Deaflympics in Sofia (Bulgaria) included 417 people, including 302 athletes (181 men and 121 women), 72 coaches, 25 doctors and masseurs, 18 managers, specialists and interpreters. The team of Russia took part in all the 20 disciplines of sports deaf. This — badminton, basketball, wrestling freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, bowling, cycling, road, volleyball, judo, karate, athletics, table tennis, swimming, beach volleyball, shooting, orienteering, taekwondo, football, tennis, handball and mountain biking. In the last three disciplines of Russians took part for the first time. USSR national team for the first time took part in the Deaflympics in 1957 and has always been in the top three overall team standings. Since 1993 the tradition was continued by the Russian Federation and the national team, has always occupied the second place in the unofficial team standings. And in the last Olympic Games in 2009 in Taipei for the first time the Russians were the best, winning 98 medals — 29 gold, 41 silver and 28 bronze.
