Penalties for poaching in Russia increased by 10 times

The Federation Council approved at the Saturday meeting law that significantly increased penalties for poaching.

In particular, for violation of the rules of protection of habitats and migration routes of animals, including water, birds and fish there are penalties in the form of a warning or a fine for the amount of from two thousand to five thousand rubles (now — from 300 to 500 rubles), for officials — from 5 to 10 thousand rubles (now — 500 to 1 thousand) for legal entities — from 10 to 15 thousand rubles (now — from 5000 up to 10000 rubles).

Violation of hunting regulations will be punished by a fine for people from 2 to 5000 rubles (now 1-2 thousand), for officials — from 20-30 thousand rubles (now — 10-15 thousand rubles).

For violation of fishing regulations, including commercial fishing, coastal fishing the maximum fine for citizens to increase 2.5-fold to 5000 rubles for officials — doubled (from 20-30 thousand rubles). Liability for legal persons remains unchanged.

This penalty does not apply to fishing in inland waters and the territorial sea, continental shelf and exclusive economic zone of the Russian Federation. Thus, the law goes to the president for his signature.
