Exactly five years ago, August 32008 did not become the great Russian writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn. Today the whole country remembers this prominent publicist and public figure. Alexander Solzhenitsyn - Russian writer, essayist, poet, and social and political activist who lived and worked in the Soviet Union, Switzerland, the U.S. and Russia. In 1970 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. During World War II, from 1943 to 1945 he commanded a battery of sound intelligence, had the rank of captain. In 1945 he was arrested and sentenced to eight years in labor camps and indefinite exile "for anti-Soviet agitation and an attempt to create an anti-Soviet organization." Solzhenitsyn later became one of the most prominent dissidents and for several decades - from the 60s to the 80s of XX century - actively fought against the communist regime in Russia. In 1974 by the decision of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, he was expelled from the Soviet Union and stripped of his citizenship. In 1976 he settled in the United States, Vermont, where he spent almost 20 years working on the epic "The Red Wheel." In 1994 the writer and his family triumphantly returned to Russia, arriving in Vladivostok and drive across the country. After returning Solzhenitsyn was awarded the State Prize. Among his most important works - "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich", "Matryona", "The Gulag Archipelago", "Cancer Ward," "The First Circle", an eight-epic "The Red Wheel." Alexander Solzhenitsyn died on the 90-year life in Moscow on the night of 3 to 4 August 2008.
